Minerals build strong bones and teeth, control body fluids inside and outside cells, and turn the food we eat into energy.
They enable our bodies to function correctly on a daily basis. They don’t
provide energy themselves, but they allow our bodies to ‘unlock’ the energy contained in our diet.
Minerals form approximately 4% of our body mass, mostly within the skeletal system. Minerals are
found in meat, cereals, cereal products such as bread, fish, milk and diary products, vegetables,
fruit (especially dried fruit) and nuts.
There are seven macro minerals that are required in greater amounts.
